Angel Island Visitors Center

The Angel Island Visitors Center weighs the quarantined circumstance of the immigrants whose journey was abruptly interrupted on the island, and seeks reparations through an experience of uninhibited and endless paths of travel.

Derived from an infinity loop, the building offers freedom of movement through a series of exhibits, classrooms, offices, auditorium and cafe. The ability to look ahead and see your next destination acts to pull visitors along their journey through the space, while sparking curiosity and wonder. A truss system lifts off the ground and soars above the ground levels to elevate the visitor and free sight lines to the ocean from the level below.

A rooftop park extends the length of the building, offering look-outs towards multiple views of the island and ocean; while monolithic bleachers stretch down into the sea.
