L7 House
The program’s intent is to create an immersive and inclusive community in which a Treatment center is embedded within a community made up organically of the general public. An urban oasis where the vulnerable and broken can heal and rebuild their lives within a real world environment. A place in which all necessities are at their fingertips, so that they may expend energy and time on reflection, therapy, and personal growth. An environment that facilitates therapeutic expression of creativity, a philosophy of “Giving Back”, a pursuance of higher education, and vocational training.
The different life trajectories of those in treatment, the on-site employees, and the general residents are interlocked when interactions occur in the overlaps and gaps between spaces; just as the undulating and opposing wooden sections are interlocked into a structural lattice that separates, blurs, and supports spatial volumes.
Derived from the abrupt variation of heights that stretch Fillmore’s urban fabric, the concept of pulled fabric at varying scales and densities allows aggregation and variation of structural expression between programmatic modules. The gaps between and within these stretched modules become spaces in which interpretive and improvised connections are made among the various user groups of the community.
